Video Game Reviews of Golden Sun

Customer Review: Best RPG for GBA
Summary: 4 Stars

Golden Sun is the first original RPG for the Game Boy Advance and thus gets overhyped a bit. Yes, it has great graphics; the best yet for a GBA game. It also has a pretty good musical score and great sound in general. However, the storyline is right out of an early Final Fantasy game. The characters over emphasize plot points through repetitive dialog ("Should we go that way? Yes, let's go that way. OK, we're going that way. So, I guess we'll go that way now. OK let's go that way now.") and the only real surprise is the ending which happens too soon and doesn't really resolve anything (because it's to be continued!). Still, it's strangely addictive and you do care what happens to the characters. All in all a very strong RPG that's almost perfect.

Customer Review: Fun for a Game Boy RPG
Summary: 4 Stars

This game is pretty fun to play in between classes and during my astronomy lectures. It has really good graphics and spells for a game boy.

The story seems to be overused and predictable. And the dialogue is too long for such a linear game. My favorite rpg's are Planescape: Torment, Fallout 2, and Arcanum for the Computer. These have lots of dialogue, but there are tons of choices to define your character and stuff. This is just too linear to make us press B for all of the text. And the yes and No in the text is pretty pointless too. It all leads to the samething.

Monster encounters happen to often (imho) and it can get really difficult. But all in all it is a pretty good game for GBA.

Customer Review: "How can you be so calm in face of such wonders?"
Summary: 5 Stars

Never once I had been able to play Super Nintendo. My brothers would be playing Metroid and I would sit and watch wit awe. But they wouldn't let me play, I was too young. So my video game playing started with the first and original Game Boy. That wasn't as good as the Super Nintendo, but I still couldn't pry it from my fingers. It was all I could play until my brothers would finally find me worthy of playing Super Nintendo. Never in my life did I imagine that I WOULD be playing Super Nintendo. Just not the same title. Game Boy Advance, yes, is compatable of having awesome graphics! When I first got one, there wasn't really anything out worth playing. But then, I got a Nintendo Power in the mail, and I read a clip on a game called Golden Sun. It was the newest craze! I had never heard of this game, ever. But I looked at the screen caps, read the articles and looked at the drawn pictures. Already I was HOOKED. I didn't have any clue what the plot was, but I didn't care.

It was NOT a waste of money.

From the moment the game start to the second it ended, I was hooked. At knight I would be playing it under the covers of my bed with my flash light. I would sneak in a short play before school. I'd play on the bus, man I couldn't stop! This game is just simply amazing, a classic.

The graphics and color are just wonderful. You won't want to stop looking at the screen. The music is so cool, You'll turn on your GBA just to hear the music, even after you've beaten the game. The characters are intriguing, and insantly you want to learn more about them.

And the plot?

I read in a few places that the plot is your typical RPG story line. I don't think so. You play this game with one idea in your head, the idea of why you're on this quest, why you have to stop the villains, what will happen if you don't. But is that really the truth?

This game starts out with an attention grabber that you just can not get out of. ANd it ends with the mast of cliff hangers. Fortunetly, there is a sequal, or Book II rather. But this game is definetly worth a try. 5 stars does not do this game justice, it's more like 10!

Don't let the disapointment of past RPGs make you doubt this one. This game is like no other. I bought this game without having a clue as to what it was about. I had only seen the pictures, heard the title. It was worth the money.

Golden Sun, from beginning to end, will suck you in and leave you thirsty for more. The beginning starts out with the best of attention grabbers, filled with suspense, intense moments, and perfect music.

Through out the entire game, the music goes perfectly with the scenes, the villages, towns, and wilderness are amazing, (even though it's only 2-D), the plot will deepen with each town, side plots and new stories will arise.

The villans in Golden Sun are by far fantastic. They are cool, mysterious, power greedy, powerful and have awesome quotes. They are purely evil...or are they? You will want to play just to see and learn more of their characters.

Overall, this game is perfect and absolutely amazing. If you don't like RPGs, you might want to reconsider. If you like video game music, you will turn on your GBA just to hear the amazing music. If you like shadowed and half hidden plots, thisis the game for you. This game is completely worthy of being bought and played. 5 stars does not do this game justice, it should have 10 stars at least.

Customer Review: The sun is shining on Golden Sun!
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a great RPG addition to the GBA! the graphics are stupendious, the score couldn't be better (though some of the SFX could), and the fighting system is like almost every other RPG, but hey? who says thats bad? the plot is basic RPG: bad guys steal something, you must get it back, they want to destroy the world, you have to stop them. but, for all that repetivness, its a vivid game that will keep you playing for hours on end!!!
